Oh, Just Some Things

Well I wish I had a way of making my life sound more eventful than it actually is.  But maybe it's good that things are calm.  I would rather not have crazy trials and challenges!  The ones I have are good enough!

I have the best boss.  The job isn't bad either.  I work for my mom and my hours are "whenever as long as the work gets done."  How awesome is that, right?  I've always loved sleeping in in the mornings, and I feel bad when I don't get up early.  But my boss doesn't care when I get in as long as I do my job!  Fantastic!  It's hard sometimes though to be motivated in learning new things since I have no desire whatsoever to ever do anything in the mortgage industry.  I could if I wanted to, but I really don't want to.  I hope I don't have to work at all when I have kids (and after Adam goes through school and gets a good job) so I can be a full-time mom.  That is my dream!  I know it's important and so that is my goal.

It surprises me almost at how many missionary opportunities are all around me.  Praying for them really helps me see them.  I hope to make a difference in people's lives one by one.

One of my very bestest friends, Elyse, is getting married!!  I am super duper excited and happy for her!

After searching online for the perfect outfit to wear on this special occasion and not finding it, I decided I'm going to make a dress!  I've never done it before and it will be fun (hopefully more-so than frustrating)!  My mom said she will set up my sewing machine on a table and have a place to make projects in the small room being used for storage, which was originally supposed to be a laundry room (excessive explanation, sorry).  I'm so excited and I can't wait to start making projects!

Adam and I and his parents went to the Arizona vs. Washington game with FREE tickets (thanks Mom and Steve)!  8th row, right across from the Arizona bench. Be jealous.

And we also scored free tickets to the professional golf tournament that was in town last week.  We didn't see Tiger Woods, but saw some other apparently famous players.  Ha.  Players.  :D

Hiatus

I've decided to take a short hiatus in my internet fixation.  At least at home.

Starting today, for the next week:

No e-mail, facebook, or blogger.  And instead scripture study, exercise, and going to bed early enough to be able to wake up to get to work on time.

There are lots of things I need to get crackin' on around here but the tasks are intimidating and only get worse as the days go on.  Constantly having to figure out dinner (with my limited knowledge of such) and then making it (with almost zero counter-space), then also grocery shopping (shudder), not to mention breakfast and lunch, cleaning up - everything!, (which goes hand in hand with) organizing... which I've never been good at, and the classic needing-to-go-to-bed-at-a-decent-hour (so I can get out of bed early like a responsible grown-up!).

Maybe re-occurring short term plans are easier to stay with than long, drawn-out, never-ending plans?

This I Testify

Today is what we call Fast Sunday, for the wonderful opportunity we have to fast (at least) once a month for the blessings of God to be more abundantly poured out upon us for the improvement of our lives.

Today we have what we call Testimony Meeting along with our Sacrament Meeting this first Sunday of the month (and each month) where the pulpit is opened to any member of the congregation to come up and bear testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and the true-ness of His Gospel which has been restored to the earth.

I know that Jesus Christ came to the earth, son of Mary and our Heavenly Father, and lived a perfect life so He could atone for our sins, that we may be able to repent so we can become clean and perfected through Him and His blood so we could be able and worthy to return to live with our Father in Heaven again.  I know we (all of us who have ever been or ever will be here on the earth) lived with our Heavenly Father, who created our spirits, and Jesus also, who is our older brother as one of Heavenly Father's spirit children.  I know that our Heavenly Father presented a plan to us, which we rejoiced to be able to take part in, which was for us to come to earth and receive bodies and to overcome trials and struggles that we might know and understand happiness by also knowing sadness and pain, so we could gain knowledge of good and evil and become like our Heavenly Father in all of these ways, so that we could return to live with Him for eternity and that He would grant us all the blessings and power that He has if we lived righteously on earth.  I know that the Bible is the word of God, as long as it is translated correctly.  I know the Book of Mormon is also the word of God and completes the Gospel of Jesus Christ alongside the Bible and modern revelation from our prophets today in this last dispensation.  I know that Joseph Smith saw God, our Heavenly Father, and also Jesus Christ when he was just 14 years old, and that through him They restored the Gospel to the earth once more, with the power of the priesthood being restored.  I know that Christ established His church on the earth when he walked with men, and that the priesthood was gone from the earth as He and all of His apostles faced death.  There was a time of apostasy when the fullness of Christ's Gospel was not found on the earth, as was prophisied by prophets in the Bible.  But with Joseph Smith, there has been a restoring of the very fullness of the Gospel that was on the earth when Jesus was also here.  I know that because of Joseph Smith and his dilligence and trust in the Lord, Jesus was able to restore His church on the earth once more.  And from that restoration we again have living prophets on the earth who converse with God and lead His people as He would if He were here.  I know that we can receive light and truth if we truly seek it and desire to act on the answers we receive.  I know that God is an almighty and powerful God, and He is also a loving God, who loves us so dearly and desires for us to be happy and to return to live with Him after our life here on the earth.  I know that prayer is a sacred opportunity to converse with our Heavenly Father, and I know that He listens and answers.  The scriptures, which are teachings and writings of the prophets, are for us in our day to guide us to the path of righteousness to be able to be granted exhaltation with Heavenly Father.  The words of modern day prophets are just as important to heed as those found in the scriptures.  How blessed we are that God has not ceased to reveal things to His people!  We live in a time of turmoil, but peace can be found all around us if we receive the greater light we are offered with the fullness of the Gospel.  I am so grateful for temples and for the priesthood so we can be sealed to our familes forever and so we can take the necessary steps and to pass through each gate necessary to be granted that eternal happiness we seek.  I know all these things to be truth because the Holy Ghost has witnessed it to me.  And you can have that same witness if you desire.

Not exactly sure what to put here...

Man, everyone is having babies!  I'm a little jealous; I want one!  Adam and I are getting more and more excited each day to have kids, but the time just hasn't come yet.  In the meantime I'm learning how to be a better wife, or trying!  My organization and cleaning skills could use some work.  But isn't that true for us all?  I'm just glad I'm not alone!

Speaking of alone, Adam's going to be working graveyard security shifts for a little while.  :(  I miss him terribly!  He's going to be out at night and asleep during the day when he's not at school...  I'm not going to see him a whole lot..  :(  I guess it will give me more time to work on those things I keep putting off, like organization and cleaning.

Our lease will be ending in the near-ish future and we're considering some options.  It is such a buyers market right now and oh how we want a house!  You know, I think it's a little funny how I have a hard time sometimes committing to things long-term, yet I want to buy a house.  Hmm.  Oh and I got married...  Well, it's true what they say..  When you know, you just know!  :)

I love love love having callings in the Church (of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)!  Adam and I teach 8 (turning 9) year olds in Primary and I have grown to love it oh so much.  I'll admit that I wasn't as thrilled about it for the first while, which seemed a little weird since just about everyone loves Primary!  But as I have put more effort into it, the Lord has blessed me with such an increase of love for these kids!  I'm trying to be a better teacher and instead of being nervous or worried about the lesson (and being relieved once it's over) I'm super excited to be able to help teach them and I get a little sad once the class time is over (and man does the time fly)!  It just goes to show that the Lord is willing to bless us, but we must be willing to work.  I also get the opportunity to be with the Young Women of the stake and teach and help them play sports during the year!  It's only one night a week for a month and a half but boy do those girls make me smile!  I love to witness them learning and improving!  They are so special, and I am so glad to see them come play with us!  I can see their confidence boosting and it is a blessing to me to see that in them.  I'm glad I get to be a part of that and to help them indirectly in their lives.

Oh and I just want to say that I made a deLICious dinner tonight, fettuccine alfredo with chicken, with home-made alfredo sauce which was fantastic!  We had a roast in the crock-pot last night and it was yummy!  That was the first time we've used the crock pot, and now I'm not sure why I was so afraid of it!  It's easier to clean one pot than three!!  And we made our own concaction of fried rice with veggies and chicken and some lo mein noodles on the side, yum.  I'm trying to be better at this dinner thing...  Especially for Adam's sake (or else he doesn't eat good food)!  I just get intimidated by ingredients I don't know and also the lack of counter space and the cleaning of all the dishes afterwards and then the large amounts of leftovers (sometimes) that just sit in the fridge.  Although we're getting better at eating leftovers for lunches.  It helps when we don't let ourselves buy pizzas or pizza bites when we go grocery shopping.


From the Ferguson kitchen -

(Yummy) Alfredo Sauce:

(For a serving of 6...  I cut it in half tonight for just the two of us)

1 stick butter
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 cups grated parmesen cheese
salt and pepper to taste
(and I like to add garlic salt to taste)

Warm butter and cream in a skillet.  Add salt and pepper (and garlic salt) to season.  Add cheese.  Mix until cheese melts.  (Add more cream and/or cheese if needed or desired.)

Add your noodles (and chicken!) and enjoy!!
